Things You're Glad They Never Told You

Woodstock went to the doctor today for her 12-month "almost-well baby" check-up. Terrorized by the multiple blood draws early yesterday morning, she started clinging to me and wailing the minute we walked into the office.

As the pediatrician (one of my favorite people on the planet) and I were discussing the records faxed over by the hospital, I asked what the micro-panic was concerning the odd rash and blood results Woodstock had (which is what led us to 7 hours in the ER versus 2).

She looked at me and said: Meningitis.

It's probably a good thing they didn't tell me that as I sat, sleep-deprived, in the hospital room.

On that note, Woodstock's blood culture came back negative for meningitis and she appears to have made a nearly full recovery from whatever it was she had.
