On Miracles

I believe in miracles - big and small - things completely unexplained by rational thought. I've seen miracles in my own life. I am still alive because of a couple.

However, I've come to realize that miracles - and answers to prayers (another thing in which I believe strongly) - sometimes come disguised as something else. Like the Emperor's New Clothes, sometimes miracles can only be seen, and appreciated, by those looking with an open mindset, unencumbered by preconcieved notions, petty demands and a narrow definition.

Miracles are, well, miraculous - even the small ones can be amazing and wonderful and bring a person to her knees. Yet, there are times, when miracles, in all their wonder, are unexpected, unexplained and in one's limited scope of life, seem less-than-miraculous.

Sometimes miracles hurt. Sometimes they don't seem quite like the wonderful thing people make miracles out to be. Sometimes they don't seem right for us at all. Sometimes miracles and answers to prayers are inconvenient.

I've had some of those too.

Sometimes it takes realizing what the miracles bring to understand their miraculous nature.

Often, it means placing the miracle in God's hands and asking for guidance and praying for peace.
